Asia Cup 2023: Sri Lanka Announce 15-member Squad For The Tournament, Three Stars To Miss The Event Due To Injury

Defending champions Sri Lanka have finally announced the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. The co-hosts will definitely be some of their remarkable players in this tournament who are unable to participate in it due to injury.

The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 30th in Multan. Unfortunately, they will not have the services of leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who emerged as both the top run-scorer and highest wicket-taker in the Lanka Premier League. Other notable players who will not be a part of Asia Cup 2023, include Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Madushanka, and Lahiru Kumara.

The bowling department might appear slightly weakened, but there are players in the team who can do well in the upcoming tournament with their bit of experience in international cricket. Binura Fernando and Pramod Madushan have been included in the lineup as replacements for the injured players. Team will be heavily dependent on the performance of Matheesha Pathirana and Kasun Rajitha who have done well in a very short span of time.

Kusal Perera has joined the squad after a span of two years. However, the batter is suffering from flu and it will not be possible for him to be part of the playing XI in the first two matches. Anyways, his comeback will definitely bring some sort of experience to the side.

Sri Lanka will face Bangladesh in the first match of the tournament in Multan on September 30.
