India will play its first match in the Asia Cup 2023 against Pakistan on September 2 and then against Nepal on the 4th of that month. Meanwhile, the head coach of Team India Rahul Dravid has confirmed that star Indian wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul has not gained his full fitness and will miss the first two matches of the tournament.
The former Indian addressed the media on Tuesday, August 29, and confirmed that Rahul will not be available in the playing XI for the group-stage match. India is in group A, along with Pakistan and Nepal.
While giving an update on KL Rahul, the head coach said,”So giving clarity on KL Rahul. He has had a really good week with us here. He has done training and is progressing really well on the route that we want to take. But he will be unavailable for the first part, for the Kandy leg of the tournament.”
“From our perspective, it’s just two fewer games. Both him and Shreyas are in the same boat. KL Rahul is really batting well, he is keeping well. I think it’s just a slightly more cautious approach to him, leading into the World Cup. He will have a couple of match simulations over the next few days here.”
He further added,”The NCA will be looking after him while we are traveling. We will reassess on the 4th and take it from there. But the signs are really good. He will be unavailable for the first 2 games. But we will reassess on the 4th and take it from there.”
KL Rahul has been suffering from a hamstring injury for a long time. He missed the IPL 2023 as he got injured while fielding at the boundary rope.
