Asia Cup 2023: Big Blow For Sri Lanka, 2 Star Pacers Ruled Out Of Tournament With Injury

Dilshan Madushanka and Lahiru Kumara of Sri Lanka have joined the list of injured players in the bowling squad as they prepare for the 2023 Asia Cup. These two players were anticipated to step up and lead the bowling attack in the absence of Dushmantha Chameera who is recovering from a shoulder injury. However, the team management now needs to find additional replacements quickly in order to defend their title.

A report from ESPN Cricinfo suggests that the left-arm fast bowler Madushanka might be in a race to regain his fitness before the ODI World Cup.  He suffered a torn oblique muscle during a practice match on Friday. Madushanka marked his debut in T20 Internationals in the last Asia Cup held in the UAE. In that tournament, he managed to secure six wickets from six matches with an average of 26.

The chairman of the Sri Lankan cricket medical team, Arjun de Silva also said that if Madushanka does not get his fitness, his presence in the ODI World Cup will also be uncertain.

Another fast bowler of the Sri Lanka senior team, Lahiru Kumara has been also struggling with frequent injuries and his latest setback follows the same pattern which is a side strain. He is still under rehab and there is no sign of his comeback to the team. If he does not get his fitness at the right time, he will be ruled out from the ODI World Cup as well.

Before it a report also suggested that, the star spinner of Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga will also miss the tournament due to his hamstring injury.
