“As a team we did not…”Faf du Plessis opens up after RCB’s fifth consecutive defeat

Royal Challengers Bengaluru suffered another defeat on their home turf. The red and blue army lost to Cummins and company in an absolute run-fest. 549 runs were scored with the bat. Chasing 289 RCB did not give up hope and Faught till the end.

The RCB’s skipper opened up about the team’s sixth loss of the season, saying that he was proud of the effort shown by the boys. Faf, Virat, and Karthik batted with great intent and took RCB to 262 runs in the chase of 289.

In his post-match presentation, Faf du Plessis said, “Much better (batting performance) from us; that was a proper t20 wicket. I just tried to get close in the end, but 280 was very far. It’s tough. We tried a few things; we tried different things. There’s no way to hide when your confidence is low. The fast-bowlers found it quite difficult out there. Similar to the batting perspective, we need to work on a few areas. We need to make sure the run rate doesn’t go down after powerplay.”

Faf du Plessis, along with Virat Kohli, laid a solid foundation for the chase, adding 80 runs in the powerplay. Virat Kohli was dismissed right after the powerplay by Mayank Markande, followed by Faf du Plessis.

Speaking about the team’s intention, Faf du Plessis said, “The guys put up their hands and never gave up (in the run chase). It was good to see the fight; 30–40 runs from the bowling perspective were a bit too much. It’s important to go away and freshen your mind; it’s such a mental game. Sometimes you feel like your mind is going to explode. When you get back to the contest, you have to give your full commitment.”
