Analyzing RR’s Crushing Loss: Insights from Sanju Samson

Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson blames the team’s batting failure against Hyderabad’s Spinners in the middle overs for their loss in qualifier 2. Samson feels that their batters failed to keep up the tempo against Hyderabad’s spinners Abhishek Sharma (2/24) and Shahbaz Ahmed (3/27).

Rajasthan Royals got a strong start from Yashasvi Jaiswal; however, their middle-order batters failed to capitalize against the spinners as they were reduced from 65/2 to 95/6 in 14 overs.

Speaking out at his post-match presentation, Sanju Samson pointed out the mistakes that their batters committed in the match and how their overall campaign went throughout the IPL.

Sanju Samson said, “It was a significant match. I am quite pleased with our first-inning bowling performance. We lost the game in the middle of the overs because we ran out of options against their spin. In fact, it’s really difficult to predict when we will or won’t be expecting any dew. In the second inning, the pitch began to behave differently, and the ball began to turn a little bit. They made excellent use of this advantage.”

Samson further added, “They were one-up on us because they bowled their spin in the middle overs, when our right-handed batsmen were most vulnerable. When the ball was stopping due to their left-arm spin, we could have attempted a little more reverse-sweep or even made a little more use of the crease. They were also quite skilled bowlers.”
