Chennai Super Kings, one of the most well-known teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is struggling a bit as they kick off the 2025 season. So far, they’ve managed to win just one out of three matches, and it’s been a rocky road. Some players, like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra, have been able to get some runs on the board, but others just aren’t pulling their weight.
On the bowling side, Noor Ahmed has really stood out as CSK’s best bowler, but the rest of the team hasn’t been as solid. The real pain for the fans, though, has come from the way the team has fielded. Ambati Rayudu, who used to play for CSK and is now part of the commentary team, even expressed his frustration about their fielding. He mentioned how tough it’s been to watch Ruturaj and the guys out there during the first three matches.
Rayudu pointed out how crucial those little moments can be in close games. He said they’ve seen some amazing catches lately, which is rare, but on the flip side, CSK’s fielding has left a lot to be desired. With maybe one or two decent stops, their overall performance has been pretty disappointing. He highlighted how Rajasthan Royals were clearly ready to go and showed that fielding isn’t just about having younger players; it’s about being alert and anticipating what’s coming next. He mentioned that Riyan Parag’s catch off Shivam Dube was a big turning point in the match.
Historically, CSK has had mixed reviews about their fielding skills—some better days in the past—but their current performance just hasn’t been up to par. Rayudu couldn’t hide his disappointment when talking about how they dropped catchable balls and struggled in the outfield. He stressed that these are things CSK needs to fix right away because some of their blunders were tough to watch.
Ruturaj Gaikwad echoed this sentiment during the post-match talk, acknowledging that fielding has been a worry for the team this season. He brought up that the team has been giving away an extra 8-10 runs due to their lapses in the field, which can make a big difference in close games.
Next up, CSK will face off against the strong Delhi Capitals on April 5, and fans are hoping to see more from the team and a turnaround from their current fielding troubles.
