Aiden Markram Destroyed The 12 -years Old Record, Smashed The Fastest Century Of The ODI World Cup History

During the fourth match of the 2023 World Cup, South Africa batted first and posted an impressive total of 428 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 50 overs against Sri Lanka. Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, and Quinton de Kock played pivotal roles in achieving this formidable score for the South African team. All three batters got centuries putting South Africa into a dominating zone.

Aiden Markram scored his stunning century in a mere 49 balls. Markram’s century has now set the record for the quickest century in the history of the World Cup. While batting in the fifth position, Markram surpassed Kevin O’Brien’s 50-ball century for Ireland in the 2011 tournament, achieving a remarkable century in just 49 deliveries, making him the fastest centurian in the history of the World Cup.

During his innings, Markram faced 54 deliveries and scored 106 runs. His fiery performance includes 14 boundaries and 3 massive sixes. It was Markram’s innings that propelled the South African team beyond the 400-run mark.

Before Markram, in 2011, Kevin O’Brien of the Netherlands scored a century against England in just 50 balls. The third on the list is Glenn Maxwell who scored a century in just 51 balls against Sri Lanka during the 2015 ODI World Cup.
