Aiden Markram Appointed As The New Captain Of SA In T20I, A Look At The Squad For The Series Against West Indies

South Africa has named its squad for the T20 and ODI squad for the upcoming series against West Indies. The interesting part is that the Proteas have named a new captain for the T20 series.

After Temba Bavuma, who stepped down from the captaincy role last month, the stylish middle order batter Aiden Markram has been appointed as the new skipper for the shortest format of the game. Markram has been in the form of his life the past couple of years and not only with bat but also with his game sense, the batter has impressed everyone.

Before taking up the charge of the African team Markram was also named as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the cash-rich league IPL. The Proteas will take the seat of New Zealand Kane Williamson in the 16th edition of IPL.

Talking about the African squad, the star bowlers like Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada have been rested for the ODI series and the management has picked a couple of uncapped players for it.

Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe congratulated Marrkam on his appointment. While having an interaction, he said,”I would like to congratulate Aiden on his appointment as captain of the Proteas T20I team.”

Nkwe further added,”Leadership is extremely familiar to him having successfully led on so many levels. He is a player that inspires confidence and he has all the qualities to succeed in the role. We have no doubt it will help take South Africa to the next level.

“At the same time, we would like to thank Temba for filling the position so aptly over the past two years. He has done a commendable job during this period and now has a new role to fulfil within the national set-up.”
