India and Pakistan haven’t announced their squads for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy yet. The tournament will be held from February 19 to March 9. The ICC set January 12 as the deadline for all eight teams to name their preliminary squads. India delayed their announcement due to fitness concerns about a couple of key players.
There’s been a lot of debate about India’s squad for the ODI event. Some reports suggest that the selectors might not pick Sanju Samson, even though he scored a century in his last ODI for India in December 2023. Instead, Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel are likely to be chosen over the Kerala wicketkeeper.
Some reports suggest Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi might be considered for the spin bowler slots. Meanwhile, a few experts support including Yashasvi Jaiswal, who hasn’t played an ODI yet. Amidst all the debate, ChatGPT was asked to pick India’s 15-member squad for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Here’s what the AI chatbot chose:
The AI chatbot proposed a ‘likely 15-member squad’ based on the current form of Indian players, their performances in recent tournaments, and overall team composition.
ChatGPT chose Rohit Sharma, Shubhman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul as the top order batters. It named Rohit as captain and described Rahul as a versatile player who can bat at multiple positions, providing flexibility and experience.
The AI chatbot picked Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and keeper-batter Rishabh Pant for the middle order. Interestingly, Suryakumar Yadav hasn’t played an ODI since the 2023 World Cup final, but ChatGPT still backed him as one of the top players in limited-overs cricket. It also chose Pandya as vice-captain.
There have been reports that Ravindra Jadeja might be dropped in favor of Axar Patel, but the AI chatbot included both all-rounders in India’s 15-member squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
ChatGPT chose Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh as the four fast bowlers. Surprisingly, it picked leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal as the main spinner, even though he hasn’t played an ODI since January 2023.
While explaining why it chose the 15 players, ChatGPT said:
“This squad is balanced with a mix of experience and youthful flair, with a strong contingent of fast bowlers and spinners to handle different conditions. It also includes versatile all- rounders who can perform under pressure under varied situations.”
