Former England captain Michael Vaughan has given his prediction on the left-handed opener of Sunrisers Hyderabad Pat Cummins. Vaughan has predicted that Abhishek Sharma, after his stellar performance in IPL 2024, will emulate Yashasvi Jaiswal and break into India’s squads in all three formats of the game.
Abhishek Sharma is one of the top reasons why SRH made it into the playoffs of IPL 2024. The batter opening the innings with Travis Head has shown some tremendous hitting for his franchise. Sharma smashed 66 off 28 balls and helped SRH to win the match against Punjab Kings and secured the number two position in the playoffs.
Vaughan had a conversation with Cricbuzz and praised Yashasvi Jaiswal for his immense success. Talking further he praised Abhishek Sharma and said that his batting technique is a mixture of Brian Lara and Yuvraj Singh.
“If you go back to the story of Yashasvi Jaiswal, he jumped the rails quickly through the IPL and the Indian side. Been a revelation in Test match cricket. Probably early to say this, but Abhishek could do exactly the same.”
“He could easily do the same across all three formats. His technical side is excellent. He has got Brian Lara-esque and Yuvraj Singh-type swing of the willow.”
Yashasvi has been a wonderful story, you don’t see many like that. Just arrive on the international stage and look like they have been playing for 15 years. But I think Abhishek isn’t far off,” said Vaughan.
