With the tentative dates for the next edition of the Pakistan Super League potentially conflicting with the Indian Premier League 2025, the franchise owners of the PSL have urged the cricket board of that country to apprise them of the situation regarding foreign player availability for the tournament. A reliable insider privy to the PSL franchise owners said that they have addressed a missive to the new PSL Director Salman Naseer and have asked for a meeting to be organized as soon as possible to address their inquietude.
“The owners want the PCB to give them clarity which players would be available for the PSL if the IPL is also being held at the same time and also about broadcasting schedules,” the source told PTI.
“The owners are worried because of lack of clarity. The England and Wales Cricket Board and some other boards are talking about restrictions on their players playing in leagues so they want clarity ahead of the PSL players draft.”
PSL traditionally takes place between February and March but the event’s next iteration has been moved to end April-beginning of May since Pakistan will be the host of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in February and March. On the contrary, the IPL next year is set to take place between March and May.
According to the source, additional intimidation exists that as many overseas cricketers as required will not be available after the IPL auction on March 22, which has been shifted to Saudi Arabia.
According to him, the franchise owners were of the opinion that owing to certain urgent matters such as next year’s Champions Trophy, the PCB could afford to shelf the concerns regarding the next installment of PSL.
”It has been precisely 10 years and some of the franchise owners have requested that Salman Naseer shed light on the pledge made to establish an independent PSL secretariat, which still has not materialized
After the fulfilling of the 10th edition of PSL next year, all the franchises and the PCB have to renegotiate their contracts and inter-financial relations. The PCB can also plug in a few more teams into the existing six-team PSL.
