‘After Rohit Sharma, He Is Better Captain Material Than Hardik Pandya’

As Team India is going through a transformation, fans are seeing the continuous captaincy changes in almost every series. Currently, the team is on the Bangladesh Tour where they have lost the first ODI of the three-match ODI series. Not only fans but cricket experts are also not happy with the team management and the kind of decisions the team is making.

Questions are also being asked about the approaches of Rohit Sharma and experts think that it is the correct time to replace Rohit with some young blood. As we know Hardik Pandya is already one of the top contenders for the role and nearly everyone is considering him as the next ODI and T20I captain for India after Rohit’s departure. However, former Indian cricketer Maninder Singh has picked another Indian young star who possibly could be the best Indian captain than Hardik Pandya and he is none other than Shreyas Iyer who has been magnificent in some recent ODIs series.

While having a conversation with Hindustan Time at Sony Sports Network, Maninder Singh said, “I’ve been saying this for the past 3-4 years, you know Shreyas Iyer is my favorite, whenever I have seen him lead any side, when he led the IPL side or anywhere, he looks like a good thinker of the game. He’s got a good head on his shoulders, and he is very positive. You can see his approach when he bats, whenever he comes to bat he is looking for runs. He is not somebody who thinks that – ‘I’m gonna stay at the wicket for some time, and then I start scoring runs. If he doesn’t get boundaries from the word go, you can see him rotating his strike, he is looking for singles, trying to find the gaps and that’s his quality.”

The former cricketer further added, “For me, I still feel, I’ve said it earlier Hardik Pandya at the moment – you can make him the captain in white-ball cricket. But in my mind, it’s Shreyas Iyer, actually (a candidate) for the past 3-4 years. I hope that we give him opportunities to play for India regularly in all the formats because he has a good brain.”
