Afghanistan Announces 16-member Squad For The Three-match ODI Series Against Ireland, 2 Star Players Not Included
Afghanistan has announced its 16-member squad for the three-match ODI series against Ireland. The team’s star spinners Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman will continue to be unavailable for the upcoming ODI series in the UAE as they are still recuperating from their injuries.

After the defeat in the one-off Test against the Andrew Balbirnie-led Irish team on March 1, Afghanistan is now aiming to regain form in the upcoming ODI series. The absence of both Rashid and Mujeeb is a factor that Ireland seeks to exploit, extending their impressive run of form.
In November 2023, Rashid Khan underwent lower-back surgery, leading to his absence from competitive cricket. Currently, he has not fully recovered from the procedure. Notably, Khan has been seen attending Anant Ambani’s pre-wedding celebration in Jamnagar.
ACB chief selector Ahmad Shah Sulimankhil said, “Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman continue to recover from their respective injuries and are unavailable for selection.”
On the other hand, Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been in the recovery process from a right phalanx sprain that occurred during Afghanistan’s ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar, who has been termed as Afghanistan’s upcoming mystery spinner, along with the left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Nangeyalia Kharote, have received their first senior team call-ups for the upcoming ODI series against Ireland in Sharjah.
