India’s devastating young pacer Umran Malik is again in the limelight after his sensational bowling display against New Zealand at least in his first spell of the 1st ODI. Before the T20 World Cup 2022, he was one of the most discussed topics as many cricket experts wanted him into the T20 World Cup squad.
Umran Malik knocked on the door of Team India after a decent IPL 2022 where he was continuously clocking 150km/hr and BCCI immediately called him for national duties. After their official entry to the national team, he also played some T20I matches for India.
Recently Umran Malik made his ODI debut for India against New Zealand during the 1st ODI at Auckland. Despite losing the match, everyone appreciated Umran Malik for his line and length in the initial overs before finishing his spell of 10 overs at 66 runs for 2 wickets.
Just after Umran’s debut, his father Abdul Rashid made a shocking statement for his son on India’s representation. Rashid said that it benefited Umran Malik as he did not play in the T20 World Cup for India. He feels that Umran should not get in a hurry to get anything, rather he should focus on his development and learning skills.
While having a conversation with NEWS 18, he said, “Dekhiye janab… Log keh rahe the na, ki world cup nahi khela, lekin hum kehte hai ki achha hua jo nahi khela. Jo jab hona rehta hai wahi hota hai! (People were saying that he couldn’t get selected for the World Cup. We think it is great that he didn’t make it. Things happen when they are meant to).
He further added, “You don’t need to rush behind anything. The kid is in the learning phase. He shares the dressing room with the experienced ones. He’ll go there and learn from them. You need not hurry. The big players who are already there are doing pretty well while others get the opportunity after being noticed.”
He also talked about his ODI debut and said, “It was important for him to play the ODIs and he made a decent debut. The almighty backed him so did the entire nation. Sabka kehna tha ki Umran Mallik aur Sanju Samson ko khilao (People were talking about getting Umran and Sanju Samson in the team. It happened today and we felt great.”
