In the IPL 2025 game on Monday between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), things got heated when SRH all-rounder Abhishek Sharma clashed with LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi. The BCCI slapped him with a 25% fine of his match fee for breaking the IPL’s rules.
So, what went down between Abhishek and Rathi? It all happened during the eighth over of SRH’s innings. Abhishek was on fire, scoring 59 runs off just 20 balls, but then he mistimed a shot that led to an easy catch for Shardul Thakur. As he left the field, Rathi did his usual book-signature celebration, which didn’t sit well with Abhishek.
Replays showed Rathi making a gesture towards Abhishek after the out, leading to some back-and-forth between the two. The match officials stepped in quickly, but it still caught a lot of attention.
After looking into it, the BCCI decided to take action against Abhishek. He was found to have committed a Level 1 offense for using obscene or offensive gestures during the match. The Match Referee gave him a 25% fine of his match fee and added a demerit point, marking the first one for him this season.
