Talking about cricket, Aamir Khan idolized the ‘Master Blaster,’ Sachin Tendulkar, as his “number one” cricketer, whereas for him, the 2011 World Cup final was his most “memorable match.” Aamir was present at the Wankhede Stadium when the fifth T20I was being played between India and England. It was utter dominance by India, with Abhishek Sharma taking center stage with his swashbuckling show. With his record-breaking century, Abhishek helped lift the hosts to a mammoth total of 247/9, which is India’s fourth-highest score in T20I format. Stepping into the limelight after Abhishek’s onslaught, the Indian bowlers found out his clinical performance to seal a heartwarming 150-run win and bamboozling England for a 4-1 series win.
“The feeling was different for the Indian team when they take on the field. Just being part of the Indian team would be a dream come true for me. It would bring me pride irrespective of my position,” said Aamir in a video posted by the BCCI on X.
The Bollywood superstar revisited history as he went around Wankhede Stadium reliving What he saw during his previous visit.
He walked in to witness some of the most iconic episodes in Indian vivisection history during the final match of the World Cup in 2011 when MS Dhoni finished it in style for India after a gap of 28 years. He was also present in the audience when Sachin played his last Test for India at the same venue in 2013.
It’s gotta be the 2011 World Cup final for me, something that I would not forget. It was really a special day for us, nobody is ever going to forget it. The second match would probably be when Sachin retired. I was there for that game. Sachin is someone I have been a huge fan of. I think the guy I look upon is Sachin. He has always been my number one favourite cricketer,” Aamir said.
Afterwards, he congratulated the Indian side on successfully defending their title in the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup, defeating South Africa by nine wickets.
“So congratulations to the girls U19 team. What an amazing thing you have done and we all are proud of you. Well done and thank you,” he concluded.
