Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has criticized the three teams that were supposed to be the favorites for the ODI World Cup 2023. Earlier nearly every expert said that teams Pakistan, Australia, and England are the contenders for the semifinals but none of the teams have performed well in this tournament till now.
As of now, Team India and New Zealand are the only undefeated teams in the tournament. South Africa holds the third position, despite their unexpected loss to the Netherlands, but they have been victorious in their other matches with a dominant performance.
Talking about Australia, New Zealand, and Pakistan, all three teams have lost more than one match and their performance in the ongoing tournament has been very average.
Talking about this on his official YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said, “India, New Zealand, and South Africa will surely qualify for the semi-finals. The fight will be for the fourth spot among England, Australia, and Pakistan. None of those teams are looking good, to be honest.”
Australia faced a series of losses at the beginning of their campaign, but have managed to gain some momentum with back-to-back victories over Sri Lanka and Pakistan in recent matches.
England’s difficulties in the 2023 ODI World Cup persisted as they experienced their most impactful defeat in the format. The team led by Jos Buttler was unable to match South Africa’s performance, falling short by 229 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai last Saturday.
