Former cricketer Aakash Chopra has looked at Congress leader Shama Mohamed&’s statements on India captain Rohit Sharma. Shama posted—since deleted—that Rohit is “fat for a sportsman” just before India’s Champions Trophy semi-final against Australia. Shama had also labelled Rohit “the most unimpressive captain” in another X post. Still, Shama recanted from her remarks on Rohit’s captaincy as India defeated Australia in the semi-final on Tuesday and lauded him for his game leadership.
Chopra has given his perspective on the dispute on his YouTube network. He only quizzed Shama about her commentary on Rohit‘s captaincy and the reasons for her saying Rohit was “the most unimpressive captain”.
“A statement from Shama Mohammed ji caught my attention. She most definitely erased that tweet also. So I was limited to a screenshot. I trust I caught the right one, where she mentioned Rohit. Chopra said only one thing really pained me: “the least remarkable captain for India” or anything.
Regarding the case of former Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranatunga, who guided his team to its first Cricket World Cup championship in 1996, Chopra said a captain should be evaluated according by his successes. Chopra also commended Ranatunga setting Sri Lankan cricket’s new look.
I asked, really? How do you determine if someone is a good or an excellent captain or not, if he is a game-changing captain inspiring a generation or not? Arjuna Ranatunga was Sri Lanka’s cult figure. He transformed the image of Sri Lankan cricket. He added, “in 1996 he raised the cup.
Rohit’s loss to England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final changed Chopra noted how India approached white-ball.
Now hear this. Under Rohit Sharma&’s leadership, we lost the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final. We saw there that we did not perform well; we said something beforehand and then performed differently. He then began to play a different type of cricket. Chopra pointed out:” You will assess him by his impact,
Chopra also wondered how a captain who has brought his team to three consecutive ICC finals might be termed “unsatisfactory.”.
From then until now, three ICC events have occurred: an ODI World Cup, a T20 World Cup, and the Champions Trophy currently in progress. The man has only lost one game. As a captain, Rohit Sharma has only lost one game. Is that unsympathetic as a leader?
