Aakash Chopra Puts A Big Question For Team India Ahead 2023 ODI World Cup, Names The Biggest Competitor For Shubman Gill

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has expressed uncertainty regarding whether Ishan Kishan’s consistent performance during the recently concluded ODI series against the West Indies will secure him a spot as an opener for India in the upcoming 2023 World Cup.

In the finale of the three-match ODI series against West Indies, Ishan Kishan delivered a spectacular performance and scored 77 runs from 64 balls. With this outstanding performance, the Indian cricket team convincingly defeated the West Indies by a massive 200-run margin in Trinidad. With this win, victory secured a series win of 2-1 in the three-match contest.

While having a conversation on his official Youtube Channel, Aakash Chopra said that it will be interesting to see whether Ishan Kishan’s performance in this particular ODI series gives him a place in the 2023 ODI World Cup or not.

Aakash Chopra said,”The Player of the Series in my opinion is Ishan Kishan. It could have been shared between Ishan Kishan and Shardul Thakur but I have kept Ishan Kishan because the pitches in the first two matches were tough. If you see it from the World Cup perspective, your third opener and second wicket keeper is ready.”

He further added,”The good thing is that he has scored runs. These runs are extremely important because these are international runs, but if we see from the World Cup perspective, can these runs help him bat at the same position? That’s the big question the team has to answer.”

Aakash Chopra also says that even if Ishan Kishan is picked for the upcoming ODI World Cup, he might not get a chance to open the innings.

“He (Kishan) might not open when he plays in the World Cup, that’s what I feel. I feel Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma will only open. Virat Kohli is going to come at No. 3. So you will not have a single left-hander in the top three. All three are going to be right-handers.”
