Aakash Chopra is a former cricketer whose job has landed him comfortable in life now as a commentator. He feels that Karun Nair hasn’t made the most out of his second chance in cricket due to an average outing against Kolkata Knight Riders. Karun has tweeted, Dear cricket, give me one more chance on December 10, 2022, when a truly exciting match happened between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025. Chasing a stiff target of 206 runs, Karun electrified the crowd at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, scoring an impressive 89 runs off just 40 balls. Since then, however, he hasn’t been able to sustain the momentum and has collected a total of 65 runs in his last five innings.
While dissecting Delhi’s effort against Kolkata, Chopra did not spare Karun’s performance. He said, Karun Nair hasn’t made the most of the second chance cricket has given to him. This was a chase where they needed to overcome the overs from Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy. KL Rahul’s run-out was crucial and from that, it seemed as if it was their last chance; when Tristan Stubbs did not come to the party, it felt like Delhi would fall short.
He said further that that Capitals squandered chances and needed someone else besides Faf du Plessis to really push them forward in the winning cause. Lost the game due to Sunil Narine-the game-changer. Faf and captain Axar Patel really put Delhi in a good position with their partnership, but everything changed with Axar going to Narine.
Axar was looking to loft the ball over extra cover but ended up with a catch at 43 runs with 23 balls. Tristan Stubbs was dismissed soon after, with Faf, who made 62, unable to find the right connection, slicing the ball straight to Rinku Singh. Delhi’s middle order collapsed in a mere three overs, with Narine claiming three important wickets and also part in the run-out of KL Rahul, which occurred due to his accurate throw.
Narine was brilliant with his bowling, and at that moment, very crucial with his batting. “That run-out was big; it turned the game,” Chopra said. “Varun Chakravarthy, despite leaking runs, was not on his best, and Narine rose to the occasion.”
