Former Indian player Aakash Chopra has suggested that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) should consider trading their long-time all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. This comes as Jadeja has struggled to make an impact with his batting and bowling this season, scoring only 280 runs in 13 matches and taking just eight wickets.
Chopra’s comments follow CSK captain MS Dhoni’s remarks about the team needing to plan for the future after failing to reach the IPL playoffs for the last two seasons. Dhoni mentioned that the team has to focus on which players will fit well in their lineup for next year. He emphasized that since they are out of the tournament, it’s time to find answers for the future.
Chopra also suggested that CSK should consider letting go of their New Zealand players, Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway. He believes they should hold on to Dewald Brevis, who has performed well since joining the team as an injury replacement. Trading Jadeja might be a good idea. You can have Dewald Brevis batting at No. 4. You need to figure out the lineup with someone like Urvil Patel at 3. If you’re letting Ravindra and Conway go, it makes sense to find someone who can really contribute at the top, Chopra said in an interview with ESPNcricinfo.
He pointed out that it doesn’t make sense for Ruturaj Gaikwad to bat with someone who doesn’t play aggressively. He suggests that CSK should look for either a finisher or a strong overseas batter alongside Brevis instead of keeping Jadeja at No. 4.
