A New Era Begins: Najmul Hossain Shanto Takes Charge as Bangladesh Cricket Skipper In All Format

Najmul Hossain Shanto

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has made star batter Najmul Hossain Shanto their new skipper for all three formats of the game.

This call has been taken by BCB as there is no clearance of the availability of regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan in the near future. Shanto has been batting in the top order for Bangladesh for a long time now.

Well, it’s not the first time that Shanto will be leading the Bengal Tigers, as prior to that, he had been fulfilling captain duties in their previous assignment, which was against New Zealand.

Nazmul was appointed as the skipper owing to regular skipper Shakib’s eye problem, which he picked up in the mega showpiece event that was held in India in 2023.

Shakib has been out of international cricket as well as the T20 league because he missed several matches of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League due to this eye problem.

Bangladesh cricket have a tight schedule this year waiting for them. They are all set to play 14 tests, nine ODIS, and 21 T-20 international matches, which also include the 20 World Cup, which is going to take place in the USA and West Indies this year.

Apart from Najmul, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has also appointed Gazi Ashraf, the former Bangladesh skipper, as their new chief selector.

Bangladesh is all set to host Sri Lanka in an upcoming series that includes three one-day matches,  t 20 and two test matches in the months of March and April.
