A Historic Moment: Jason Roy Becomes Fifth English Player to Achieve This T20 Cricket Milestone

England’s veteran opener, Jeson Roy, has been in red-hot form. Roy has not been part of England’s T-20 set-up but has been one of the most prominent run-getters in the foreign leagues. He was part of the SA T-20 league and is currently playing in the PSL.

Roy accomplished a major milestone in Twenty20 cricket as he became the fifth English player to complete 9,000 runs in the shortest format of the game. He achieved this remarkable feat in the Quetta Gladiators match against Peshawar Zalmi.
The opening batter scored a free-flowing 24 before spinner Sikandar Raza dismissed the opening batsman.

Roy was quite impressive in his team’s first win of the ongoing season. His 75 off 48 deliveries powered his team, Quetta, to 206/5 before the bowlers helped bowl Peshawar Zalmi for 190 runs and register a phenomenal 16-run victory.

He was also seen recently in the SA20 for the Paarl Royals. The English opener made 237 runs in 11 matches in the tournament, with a solitary fifty to his name.

Roy has not played for the English team since March 2023. His final outing for them came against Bangladesh in an ODI game. He was not included in the ODI World Cup 2023 squad. Roy has not played a T20I for England since July 2022. However, he continues to impress in different leagues around the world.

Roy is currently part of the Kolkata Knight Riders setup in the IPL. He was retained by the two-time IPL winners ahead of the auctions for the upcoming IPL season.

Roy made 285 runs in the 2023 season of the tournament for Kolkata, with two fifties to his name in eight matches.
