Rishabh Pant will be in the spotlight during the India vs England Test series. He, along with the Indian captain Shubman Gill, is now part of the new leadership team after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired. Even though Pant has shown he can win matches in Tests, his recent performance hasn’t been great. Besides scoring a century in the last IPL match for Lucknow Super Giants, he hasn’t impressed much lately.
Hemang Badani, the coach of the Delhi Capitals, suggested that Gautam Gambhir should talk to Pant and encourage him to focus on his batting rather than his leadership duties. It’s crucial for someone like Gautam Gambhir to have that conversation and tell Rishabh to just play his game. Don’t stress over captaincy or being the vice-captain. Stick to what’s worked for you in the past, Badani said.
He also expressed that Pant shouldn’t change his aggressive style. I really hope he keeps playing the way he does. He’s figured out a good mix between attacking and defending in his game. No reason to change that, Badani shared. You want to keep the pressure on the bowlers instead of letting them settle in, making it easier for them to take wickets.
