On Saturday, December 28, after a long wait, Nitish Kumar Reddy finally scored his debut Test fifty for India. The right-handed batting all-rounder from Andhra got to bat at No. 8 for the Rohit Sharma-led side in the ongoing fourth Test against Australia, which is currently on the turf of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and made his debut Test fifty. At 21, the outstanding cricketer, with some very impressive batting in this series, finally got to the half-century mark by slamming a boundary off Mitchell Starc on the 81st ball of his innings.
After making his first Test half-century in only his sixth inning, Reddy went for an epic celebration. That video is now all over the internet. The talented kid simply went and followed the trend of the movie Pushpa and celebrated making fifty by doing the Pushpa celebration
Nitish Kumar Reddy scored his maiden Test fifty which included four fours and one enormous six, and has now put on more than sixty runs for India’s eighth-wicket position with Washington Sundar to help the team avoid a follow-on for the second Test in a row.
Now, Reddy earned a place in the Indian cricket team after superb batting at IPL 2024 for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He made 41 in his debut Test innings for India at Optus Stadium in Perth on November 22, 2024. Reddy then remained not out on 38 runs in the second innings of an Indian victory over the Australians in four days, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
Once again, Reddy top-scored for India during his second Test: 42 runs from 54 balls (3 fours, 3 sixes) in the first inning and 42 runs from 47 balls (6 fours, 1 six) in the second.
There were question marks over his place in the playing XI for the Boxing Day Test as he had not really done much to contribute with the ball in three outings so far, but the team did retain him on the playing XI, and on Saturday, he managed to perform according to expectations by keeping India in the Test match and the series.
