BCCI to hold meetings with the IPL franchise to discuss the following major things ahead of the IPL auction

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has scheduled an important meeting with the owners of all ten Indian Premier League (IPL) teams for July 31. This meeting is planned to discuss and set the plans for the next season, focusing on important topics like the rules for keeping players and the possible return of the Right to Match (RTM) option. This meeting is happening before a big auction, which is expected to take place in December. The team owners are looking forward to clear information about the rules for keeping players and the usefulness of the RTM option, which were important in previous auctions.

Several franchise representatives have confirmed to India Today that IPL CEO Hemang Amin informed them about a meeting scheduled for Thursday morning. Although the location has not been decided yet, it is believed that the BCCI intends to hold the meeting at its recently renovated headquarters located within the Wankhede Stadium grounds. In the 2018 major auction, franchises could keep up to five players, with three acquired through the auction and the rest via the RTM (Right to Match) option. However, in 2022, with the addition of the Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, the retention limit was lowered to four players per franchise, and the RTM option was removed. This adjustment enabled the new teams to choose from a broader selection of players, while the established franchises had to reorganize their main player groups.

This year, many teams want to bring back the “right to match” option. They also want to be able to keep eight players, so they can have a stronger group of main players. Someone close to the situation said, “We’ve heard that the meeting will talk about everything for the next IPL season, like the right to match, money for players, and how many players teams can keep.” “Teams have different ideas about how many players they should be able to keep. Some like the idea of keeping five, some six, and some four. We hope to decide everything in the meeting, including how much money teams can spend on players, which might go up a lot.”

As the meeting gets closer, the teams are waiting to see what will happen. This meeting is very important because it will help make sure the next season of the IPL is fair and fun for all the teams
