Star Australian pacer Mitchell Starc has shared his thoughts on facing India in the finals of the ODI World Cup 2023. The 33-year-old acknowledged that going up against the undefeated Indian team will be a formidable challenge.
India has arguably been the standout team in the 2023 World Cup, leading the group stage with nine wins and securing a convincing victory over New Zealand in the semi-finals. With most players in excellent form across all departments, Rohit Sharma and company will look to clinch the title.
During a press conference after Australia’s three-wicket triumph over South Africa in the second semi-final, Starc reflected on the fact that India had defeated them earlier in the tournament.
The star pacer said,”It’s why we play the game. We want to take on the best. They’ve been the best in the tournament so far and we both find ourselves in the final. That’s what World Cups are about. You want to take on the best throughout and we certainly come up against a team that have obviously led from the front through the tournament and they’re undefeated. We played them in the first game of the tournament, now we get to take them on in the last. So yeah, what a place to be at the end of a World Cup!”
In their first encounter in this ODI World Cup, India faced Australia at MA Chidambaram Stadium Chennai where they beat the Aussies by 6 wickets.
