2023 ODI World Cup: Washington Sundar Would Have Been There In Place Of R Ashwin, Yuvraj Singh Comes With A Bold Statement

Former Indian batter Yuvraj Singh has given a huge statement regarding the Indian Squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. Yuvraj feels that management should have gone with Washington Sundar instead of Ravi Ashwin as the replacement of Axar Patel.

Ashwin has secured a spot in India’s 2023 World Cup squad, marking his third participation in the 50-overs World Cup. He was part of the triumphant 2011 team and also contributed significantly in the 2015 tournament where he grabbed 13 wickets from eight matches. His inclusion in the squad was a late decision, filling in for the injured Axar Patel, who had suffered a quadriceps tear and was unlikely to recover in time for the tournament.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Yuvraj Singh expressed his opinion that Washington Sundar could have been a suitable replacement for Axar Patel, rather than Ashwin. He believed that Sundar’s presence would have added another left-handed batsman to India’s lineup and he could have been there at number 7.

“With Axar not there we have to wait and see who will bat at No. 7. I was thinking if Washington Sundar would have played in place of Axar then India would have had another left-hander. But unfortunately, he did not get picked and so did Yuzvendra Chahal. But otherwise, I feel the combination is fine,” said Yuvraj.
