Former Indian middle-order batter Suresh Raina has given a huge statement on the batting lineup of team India before India’s encounter with Australia on October 8, at MA Chidambaram stadium, Chennai. Raina feels that like MS Dhoni now Suryakumar Yadav can play the role of finisher for India in the ODI World Cup.
Raina expressed confidence in Suryakumar’s ability to thrive in this pivotal role, stating that the dynamic batsman is the only one besides MS Dhoni, who can make a significant impact in the latter stages of the innings.
While speaking to Sports Tak, Raina said,”If anyone can make a huge impact in the death overs apart from MS Dhoni, then it’s Suryakumar Yadav,”
Suryakumar has been always criticised for his performance in the ODI cricket. However, he made a strong comeback just before the 2023 World Cup, with an impressive score of 50 and an unbeaten 72 in the first two ODIs of India’s three-match series against Australia.
Suresh Raina also said that Shubman Gill could be the top scorer for team India in the upcoming ODI World Cup. He feels that the pair of Rohit Sharma and Gill could do wonders as Sachin Tendulkar and Virendra Sehwag and Tendulkar-Ganguly did for India.
Shubman Gill will be India’s strongest card, he continued. “He has been in stunning form and has figured out how he needs to play in ODIs. He has spent some time with Virat and is batting with Rohit Sharma, who has hit double centuries. Gill has also hit a double century.
“Gill and Rohit’s pair will win the hearts of people, just like Sachin-Sehwag and Sachin-Ganguly did in the past.”
