2023 ODI World Cup: Shaheen Afridi Broke World Record, Surpasses Mitchell Starc And Shane Bond

The 31st match of the 2023 World Cup is being played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata between Pakistan and Bangladesh. In this match the captain of Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and decided to bowl first. However, Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Afridi proved this decision wrong by grabbing two wickets in the first three overs.

The moment he clinched his first wicket in the match, Shaheen created a world record to his name. Shaheen has become the fastest bowler to take 100 wickets in the one-day format in the fewest number of matches.

Shaheen Afridi achieved this feat in 51 matches, leaving behind bowlers like Mitchell Starc (52) and former New Zealand great Shane Bond (54). Star pacer of Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rehman holds the third position among the fastest bowlers who claimed the 100 wickets in ODI. Number four in this list is former Australian legend Brett Lee who got his 100 ODI wickets in just 55 ODIs.

Not only that, but Shaheen is also the fastest Pakistani bowler to reach 100 wickets. Prior to him, this record was held by Saqlain Mushtaq, who achieved 100 wickets in 53 matches.
