2023 ODI World Cup: Problem Continues For NZ, Star Batter To Miss The Match Against South Africa

Kane Williamson will be unavailable for New Zealand in their forthcoming World Cup 2023 fixture against South Africa scheduled for Wednesday, November 1. The match will be played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune.

The experienced cricketer resumed practicing in the batting nets on Monday, but he hasn’t completely recuperated from the thumb injury he incurred during the game against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Williamson sustained the injury when he was hit on his left thumb while running, and subsequent scans confirmed that he had suffered a fracture.

New Zealand’s medical staff will reevaluate his condition, and a decision regarding his availability for the match against Pakistan on Saturday, November 4, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore will be made after the assessment.

With Kane Williamson unavailable, wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Latham will maintain his role as the captain of the New Zealand cricket team in the multi-nation tournament.

Kane Williamson had previously made a comeback to the field after recuperating from a hip injury that he suffered while representing the Gujarat Titans during the 2023 Indian Premier League.

When Kane Williamson made a comeback against Bangladesh, he scored an unbeaten 78 runs in 107 balls.
