Former West Indian cricketer and one of the legends of the game, Sir Vivian Richards has stated that, according to him, the Indian team led by Rohit Sharma has the potential to go undefeated in the 2023 World Cup and secure the ICC trophy. He encouraged the Indian team to eliminate any pessimistic thoughts about the possibility of a poor performance looming ahead.
India has been the most formidable team during the league stage of the current World Cup. With a perfect record of eight victories in as many matches, they are standing at the top of the table and they are yet to face a defeat in this tournament.
However, some Indian fans and critics are saying that India has a very poor record in the knock matches of the ICC Tournament but Richards feels that Rohit Sharma and company will remain unbeaten in this epic saga.
He said, “I believe they [India] can go all the way unbeaten, which is really something to strive for. There may be some fears of ‘we have played so well so far, there may be a bad game around the corner in the semi-final’. They have to try and nullify those and banish any negative thoughts.”
Richards said that India must stick to their aggressive approach.
The former cricketer said, “India have a mindset that they can go all the way playing like this. That absolutely should be their mindset and would be mine if I were in that dressing room – let’s go out with all guns blazing. That approach has worked so far and if that changes, things may go astray.”
